Link list – Aug 25, 2013
I’m on vacation and still tweaking my iPad workflow. So far I’m quite happy but need more time to port my beloved Mac macros to Editorial. Still, here’s my first iPad-only post.
- Hacker sends this through the mail to record a video of the process
- Snail mail delivery route video recording. I love these kind of hacks.
- AppleTouch Icon Droplet
- AppleScript that generates ready-to-use touch icons.
- Google and the NSA: Who’s holding the ‘shit-bag’ now?
- Although it’s from CNET it’s a good read. The topic: evil Google via MOApp Software Manufactory
- Office Posture Matters: An Animated Guide on Vimeo
- The basics of good posture wrapped up in a sweet animation short.
- Otto’s Antenna and Remote
- Interesting concept to use a tandem of an OS X and an iPhone app to trigger scripts and workflows via geofencing. The downside is that geofencing is so demanding in regards of your iPhone’s battery life. I’d choose the Terpstra way along with Keyboard Maestro Remote to trigger the more simple stuff. Who knows, maybe Apple surprises us with NFC for the new iPhone and we can finally play around with this technology on iOS like the Android folks.
- WindowMizer
- It’s a replacement for the discontinued WindowShadeX from ManyTricks. You have to know that I’m on an app diet. So I’m a bit proud that I don’t need a hack like this anymore.
- Dog Wants a Kitty
- I’m a sucker for dogs. And I’m into dubbing. This YouTube video was a natural pick for my link list.
- Geekboy Reader
- A minimalist RSS reader for tech news.
- Manage Your Digital Afterlife with Perpetu
- The idea is kind of noble, but will such a service stick around for another 60 years….
- I Am TOM. I Like to TYPE. Hear That?
- Apparently Tom Hanks is down with “the clicky-di-clack”. I don’t mean the keyboards which are the holy grail of typing for some of you, but the more archaic version: Tom likes typewriters and collects them. The link will lead you to an entertaining New York Times article where he writes about when and why he uses a typewriter. Aside from some really odd examples which made me chuckle, he also names some fonts he enjoys when typing on a computer.
- InK - Interface Kit
- Another interesting framework. It’s not for me since I’m a SASS guy and InK is based on LESS.
- KEEO – A unique Keyholder with app
- Kickstarter is one of the places in the Internet which is always good for a surprise. That’s what I like about it and that’s why I still browse through it occasionally. Admitted, the gadgets are not always the most spectacular or practical but it’s a place where new ideas are displayed to the public. I don’t need a bulky keyholder which gives me access to my keys with a click of a button, but I certainly enjoy discovering campaigns like these.
- Amazon Introduces Samples In Kindle For iOS
- Amazon found a nifty way to bypass paying the 30% cut to Apple’s for in-app purchases.
- The Evolution of Gaming Consoles (1969 - 2013)
- Huge gaming console history infographic. I’m not sure about it but I think the first one that was in my parents house was an Atari 5200. I asked my dad about it but since he doesn’t even like to play card and board games anymore he refuses to remember. Matter of fact he can’t and I don’t blame him… it’s just so long ago.
- How I Earned A Lot More on Projects by Changing My Pricing Strategy
- A ‘Think different’ approach and a good read for freelancers. I can’t see it working for every client, especially if you depend on getting every possible client. But then again that’s clearly not the aim of the article. Anyway, I like the reasoning behind the strategy and would consider it’s worth a try for certain kind of clients.
- Birth to Death as told by Cinema - A Life in Film Mashup
- The journey of life captured in under three minutes utilizing over 150 movies. Narrated by Orson Welles with music from Dexter Britain and Max Ritchter.
- Adafruit demos Display port to Retina Display adapter
- This might lead to some great gadgets.
- Why I switched to Droplr Pro
- It’s true. CloudApp is on halt for too long now. I’m still on the fence whether to stick with CloudApp since it’s working for me (despite missing a search function), to roll my own sharing service, use an Evernote & Skitch combo or pay for another web service which locks my stuff in the cloud making it difficult to migrate (… I don’t want to be responsible for one of those forum posts with missing images).
- Rumor Roundup: ‘A very credible source’
- Yes!
- Her Majesty’s secret Nuclear War-Speech
- The Queens WW3 speech.
- Signs for the Homeless
- A tumbleblog with small real-life stories wher illustration and graphic design skills are put to good use. Love the idea.
- Worst Album Covers of All Time
- Seriously, how can one not love the Internet with sites like these?
